Pillsbury Gluten Free Calzones

I tried Pillsbury's Gluten Free pizza dough when it first hit the shelfs, and I wasn't too impressed. I LOVED the convenience, but it still has that "gluten free" taste to it that we all are familiar with. I decided to try something new one day with a tub of dough I had in my fridge. These calzones are AMAZING! I combined 2 or 3 recipes I found online until I concocted the perfect one! These are extremely filling! My boyfriend and I normally split one and I have leftovers for lunch the next day. Here it is and please tell me what you think!

Ingredients:
1 Tub of Pillsbury GF pizza dough
~Half of a cup of pizza sauce/ tomato sauce
1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup of Hormel mini pepperonis
Italian Seasoning
Garlic salt
Pesto-Basil Sauce
Rolling pin
Parchment Paper
Cookie Sheet

Steps:
Repeat for each calzone!

*Preset oven to 375 Degrees F*
PrepTime: 20 Minutes
Cooking Time: 26 Minutes

Step 1:
  • Lay out parchment paper
  • Divide Gluten Free Pizza dough into 2 equal sections
  • Roll out dough into a symmetrical "oval shape" (They should be around 8" in length
Step 2:
  • Place a half tablespoon or desired amount of minced garlic and pesto-basil sauce on one end of the dough
  • Sprinkle your Italian seasoning and garlic salt over the entire piece of dough
  • Spread 2 tablespoons or desired amount of tomato sauce over the half of your calzone that you placed the garlic and peso basil sauce on. This will allow you to spread the ingredients evenly but only keep it to one half of the dough because you will be folding it in half.
Step 3:
  • Cover your tomato sauce and seasonings with any other toppings you would like. I used about 1/4 cup of Hormel mini pepperoni slices. I have used sausage and vegetables in the past.
  • Cover the pepperonis with 1/4 cup of your shredded cheese. (I put a little extra because I love the cheese!)
Step 4:
  • Slide the parchment paper with the calzones on it onto your baking sheet.
  • Carefully flip the empty half of your calzone onto the size with ingredients.
  • Pinch your sides together to close the calzone. Afterwards I use a fork to add additional detail.
  • Sprinkle extra cheese and seasoning on top.
  • Put in the oven for 26 minutes or until golden brown
  • ENJOY!
